Friday: 13:50 York – Zennor Storm- WIN (4/1)

The phrase ‘eye-catcher’ probably doesn’t do justice to Zennor Storm, who absolutely flew home from the rear to finish second when last seen at Goodwood.

The winner that day was simply in a better position and the selection did well to finish as close as he did. Frustratingly, it was a similar story on his penultimate effort over course and distance, when he finished a never-nearer fourth after encountering traffic problems.

Evidently, he needs a bit of luck and everything to fall right, but he has a nice swing at the weights with Exclusive Code, who beat him 22 days ago and is better drawn than his rival in stall 4.

He could be a fair bit better than these and is an attractive price to find out.

Friday: 15:35 York – Time For Sandals – EACHWAY (20/1)

The City of Troy Nunthorpe Stakes looks its usually competitive contest, with exciting sprinters from France, America and Australia all lining up. However, completely over-looked in the market, Time For Sandals is simply priced too big – and can land an upset for Harry Eustace.

He may be better over six furlongs, but this race will be run at a very fast pace, so if he can stay in touch, his extra stamina will be priceless in the closing stages.

Time For Sandals showed signs of being back to his best in the Group 2 Qatar Stakes at Goodwood and he has enough class to win a race like this, as shown when he won the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last year.

Saturday: 13:50 York – Geryon – WIN (11/2)

I fancy Enceladus to win the St Leger and as a result, I think the form of Geryon’s defeat to him at Goodwood is strong.

Arguably, he should have finished closer, as jockey Colin Keane seemingly held on to his mount for too long – and should have become more vigorous at an earlier point.

Once he asked Geryon to quicken, he did so, but the leader was already away and gone. It was a classic case of what could have been.

I expect redemption here for Geryon.

Saturday 15:35 York – Ascending – EACHWAY (25/1)

The feature handicap of the week is the Ebor, with £300,000 to the winner – and I am taking a massive swing on Ascending at a huge price.

This is a horse who regularly runs well in big field handicaps, as shown to best effect when winning the Ascot Stakes last year at Royal Ascot.

He won that race off a mark of 95 and is 3lbs higher here, but is more-than capable off this rating, advertised when finishing second over course and distance in this race last year.

Another bold bid can be expected at good each-way value.
