Saturday 14:00 – FORTY YEARS ON – WIN (9/4)
When last seen at Newbury, Forty Years On looked like a group horse, so I will be taking full advantage of him still being in handicaps. He made some good horses look incredibly average and is still likely to be better than a mark of 96, especially if he shows up in the same heart as last time out. He’s won four of his last five starts and made an opening mark of 82 look very lenient when winning at Ascot back in September. Rhoscolyn would be a danger if there was heavy rain, but the selection looks solid here.
Saturday 14:35 – HIGH DEGREE – WIN (9/4)
I was starting to think High Degree was never going to get his head in front, but he finally won a race at Pontefract when last seen – and hopefully he can continue to progress. He placed at Newbury, Sandown and Newmarket, with defeats at odds of 10/11, EVENS and 11/8, so he has been frustrating to follow to say the least. He steps up to 12 furlongs for the first time and may have too much speed for his rivals, with some looking like thorough stayers. Hopefully, he can develop the winning habit!
Saturday 15:10 – ZAVATERI – WIN (2/1)
With Distant Storm not declared, it looks a perfect opportunity for Zavateri to claim his first victory of the season in the feature race, the Celebration Mile. He has been consistent without troubling the leaders in recent weeks, but has bumped into Bow Echo and Notable Speech, who have both been in scintillating health. He steps back up to a mile trip, which will suit, and it’s hard to forget his Group 1 form from last year, when he won the National Stakes at the Curragh in game fashion. This contest is significantly easier than anything he has contested this season, and I expect him to win here.
Saturday 16:55 – ALL WAYS GLAMOROUS – WIN (TBC)
Finally, All Ways Glamorous may be able to get to the front and dominate this eight-runner field after consistently showing early speed in his races. He was awkwardly away at the Shergar Cup meeting, but was well supported that day and may have fared better from a tidier start. He is another who has progressed nicely up the grades this season, winning at Ffos Las and Ascot in straight-forward fashion. He may not have bundles in hand off a mark of 97, but the structure of the race may suit here.
