Analysis
European champions Spain are deserved favourites, just ahead of France – who won the World Cup in 2018 and finished as runner-up in 2022. England take third spot having reached the last two European Championship finals, though reigning world and Copa America champions Argentina are oddly priced the same as rivals Brazil, who have not reached a semi-final since 2014.
Portugal look like a great pick at 11.00, particularly when you look at their midfield options in Vitinha, Joao Neves, Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva. Of course, there is also the presence of the evergreen Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as Ruben Dias, Rafael Leao and Nuno Mendes.
Germany and Netherlands seem fairly priced given their current standings in international football, while Norway, Colombia and Belgium make up a trio of ‘dark horses’. The Norwegians last played at the World Cup in 1998, but the combination of a perfect qualifying campaign and the world-class duo of Erling Haaland & Martin Odegaard, is likely to see them be a very popular outside (or EW) bet.

Analysis
The top contenders is a collection of the best forwards in world football right now, with 2022 Golden Boot winner Mbappe the pre-tournament favourite. The Frenchman’s chances are enhanced by the fact he takes penalties for his nation, which is the same case for Kane, Messi, Haaland and Ronaldo.
This makes these players far more attractive in what is one of the most popular pre-World Cup betting markets. As for the two Spaniards, Oyarzabal and Yamal, it is difficult to know which one will be the designated penalty taker. Oyarzabal is the main man in that regard for Real Sociedad, as is Yamal for Barcelona.
So it is perhaps wise to tread carefully when looking at the two La Roja stars, though Oyarzabal’s international record of 24 goals in 52 appearances simply cannot be ignored – especially as he will be the starting No9 for the tournament favourites.
Dembele’s price is perhaps the most puzzling, given the French attack is built around Mbappe. Yes, the Paris Saint-Germain star is a Ballon d’Or winner, but seven goals in 58 previous international appearances is a poor record. Without the added bonus of penalties (unless Mbappe is off the field of play), it is probably best to steer clear of Dembele for now.
