Barcelona vs Aston Villa: Anytime goalscorer – Nicolas Jackson @ 3.00
Barcelona score a ridiculous number of goals, but Hansi Flick’s side also concede them as well. In fact, the reigning champions of Spain failed to keep a clean sheet in each of the last five matches across all competitions, a far from ideal record. Step forward, Jackson. The Senegalese striker has been in ridiculous form for Aston Villa of late, with three goals in his three Champions League appearances for the season, and five strikes in his last five Premier League appearances. Jackson’s pace and intelligent runs in behind could wreak havoc on a Barca defence renowned for operating with an almost crazily high line.
Manchester United vs AS Roma: Draw no bet – AS Roma @ 2.21
Okay, the odds here are really baffling us, because Manchester United are somehow listed as the favourites. Michael Carrick’s wounded side lost 4-1 at Como last time out in this competition, and are winless in nine matches across all competitions following last Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Chelsea. In stark contrast, Roma are enjoying a magnificent campaign and currently sit unbeaten in Serie A with seven wins from 10 games. The capital club won 5-2 at Udinese on the weekend, and also beat Slovan Bratislava 4-0 in the previous Champions League outing. As such, siding with Gian Piero Gasperini’s men at Old Trafford feels like a no-brainer, with a Giallorossi victory priced even higher at a tempting 3.02.
AEK Athens vs Real Madrid: Anytime goalscorer – Kylian Mbappe @ 1.38
Mbappe scoring in the Champions League is such a common occurrence that the odds on offer when he plays against ‘weaker’ teams are always very low. But even so, it is a selection still worth backing as either a single or as part of a midweek combo. Mbappe has three goals in three Champions League appearances this season, while Real Madrid’s main man sits on 12 goals from 11 La Liga outings – having recently netted a brace in the 2-1 victory at Barcelona. Defensively, AEK had a bit of shocker in their last two Champions League games, losing at Shakhtar Donetsk (3-1) and Manchester City (5-1). Add in the fact that the previous two domestic outings saw AEK beaten by PAOK (3-1) and Panathinaikos (2-0), and an Mbappe goal in Athens just feels inevitable.
Slavia Prague vs Arsenal: Arsenal to win and both teams to score – No @ 2.02
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will arrive in Prague with a spring in their step having claimed a first victory away at Liverpool in 14 years on the weekend. The Gunners won 1-0 at Anfield courtesy of a Kai Havertz goal, their third clean sheet in five games across all competitions. Defensively, Arsenal are looking typically strong, which is not good news for Slavia. Of course, Wednesday’s hosts beat Jablonec 5-0 away from home in their previous outing, but Arteta’s men represent a completely different level. And lest we forget, Slavia lost 2-0 to FK Sabah on Matchday 2, while also suffering a 3-2 home defeat to Lens in their opener. Over to you, Arsenal.
