Friday 14:25 (Thoroughbred Stakes) – TALK OF NEW YORK – WIN @ 13/20

Whilst Charlie Appleby hasn’t enjoyed the most fruitful season, Talk Of New York has been a revelation – and I think will take a lot of beating this week.

His recent third in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes behind Gstaad and Bow Echo has been very well advertised, and this latest assignment is significantly easier than his Royal Ascot challenge.

That was a career-best effort, but his penultimate victory at Sandown was equally as impressive, beating Time To Turn by five-and-a-half lengths.

If first-time blinkers spark life into Saber Strike, he could be interesting, as he was well touted in previous races before underperforming. But Talk Of New York should win this back in calmer waters.

Friday 15:35 (King George Qatar Stakes) – JM JUNGLE – EW @ 9/1

The sprint division often produces bizarre results and with the likes of Night Raider, Rumstar and Jakajaro all landing nice pots this season, I’ll take a chance that it could be JM Jungle’s turn to get his head in front.

After a quiet start to the season, he ran better than the bare result suggests at Royal Ascot, before a fantastic third at York 20 days ago.

He won this race last year, enhancing his record at the track (2-3), and shapes as if he is coming back to his best.

A highly experienced six-year-old who regularly runs consistent races at attractive prices, and looks set to give supporters a good spin for their money.

Saturday 15:00 (Lillie Langtry Stakes) – SANTORINI STAR – WIN @ TBC

Santorini Star is a horse who likes being prominent and racing in the front wave, so when she was at the rear after a furlong at Royal Ascot, you knew her chances of winning were significantly hampered.

I am willing to put a line through that and a return to normal tactics should see her bounce back to the form she showed earlier in the year.

She won the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket before finishing a fantastic second at Longchamp in the Group 1 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier.

That is the best form on offer and she is attractively priced to make amends for a rare blip.

Saturday 15:35 (Stewards Cup) – FAR ABOVE DREAM – EW @ TBC

In the notoriously difficult Stewards Cup, I will tentatively side with the unexposed Far Above Dream for James Owen.

He has progressed nicely this season by winning two races, one over course and distance and the other when landing a valuable pot at Newbury.

Despite this, I was most impressed when he finished fourth in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He never got raised in the ratings for that, and I think he will go very close here.
