Thursday 2:38 – River Wharfe
Tony Carroll dominates at Brighton and with a variety of well-handicapped animals entered, so he looks set to enjoy another fruitful meeting.
River Wharfe is entered on Wednesday and Thursday, but with a good performance anticipated earlier in the week, I’d expect him to line-up again quickly and take all the beating.
He is down to a mark of 50, has five course wins to his name and shaped well when last seen when completely friendless in the market.
Jockey Molly Gunn takes off five lbs and has partnered him to success twice before and the only thing that would make me even more confident is if there is significant market support before the off. There is plenty to like.
Thursday 3:50 – Boubyan
The form of Boubyan’s latest third is working out nicely and a re-production of his effort two weeks ago at Nottingham should see him go close.
Whilst the two rivals that finished in front of him haven’t won since, Theme Park – the winner – has finished second and third on his next two starts – while the second, Chilly Breeze was well supported at Windsor on Monday, before running a nice race to finish runner-up.
Kaiya Fraser is in the saddle for the first time and is a jockey in flying form and despite Boubyan having a modest strike-rate (2-22), he could enhance his CV this week.
Thursday 4:25- Sarangpur
When Sarangpur won three starts ago at Epsom off a mark of 57, I thought he had two stone in hand, so it is no surprise to see him now rated 74.
The biggest shock came when he was beat next time out at odds of 8/15, but that can happen and he still remained a horse well ahead of the handicapper.
His contest on Thursday is quite warm for the grade, with rivals Bohemian Breeze and Nibras Gold both winning last time out.
Nevertheless, the selection is on an upward trajectory and I expect him to win again this week.
Friday 2:30 – Diomed Spirit
All Diomed Spirit’s wins have come on the all-weather tracks, but this is also related in his overall rating of 70 on the dirt and 55 on turf.
With such a big disparity between the two, I would normally steer clear of these types of horses, but he shaped well when last seen at Windsor and is capable of getting a maiden victory on grass.
It was his first start for Chris Gordon and with improvement expected, he could be better than his form figures suggest.
