13:25 – Haydock – Dancing Gemini – WIN (3/1)
Dropping back to a mile is probably the right move for Dancing Gemini, who hasn’t been seen to best effect in recent outings over 10 furlongs.
It is also a significant drop in grade and a much easier race than the ones he has been contesting in the previous year, namely the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, Lockinge Stakes at Royal Ascot and Newbury respectively.
Back in March 2025, he dropped into listed company from Group 1 level and won easily – and I am hoping for a similar class drop to have a positive effect.
14:50 – Kempton – Gethin – WIN (27/20)
Over at Kempton, the eye will no doubt be drawn to Constitution Hill, who makes his third start on the flat in a competitive Group 3 contest.
However, the two-time Champion Hurdle winner is up against it and has at least a stone to find to match listed winner Gethin, who will no doubt be competitive as he steps back up to a mile-and-a-half.
He needs to respond from a disappointing performance in the Group 1 Coral Eclipse, but this race is a lot easier – and he will take a bit of beating if running to form.
15:05 – Haydock – Stressfree – EACHWAY (7/1)
David O’Meara’s Stressfree has dropped to his last winning mark of 97 and can be very competitive in a good renewal of the Old Borough Cup.
Being dropped 2lbs from his latest effort is generous by the handicapper, as finishing sixth in the Ebor is a fantastic effort. If he can handle the two week turnaround, then he has a live chance here.
He handles slow ground and is shaping like a return to his best is on the horizon.
15:40 – Haydock – Kind Of Blue – WIN (4/1)
Kind Of Blue’s best performance of his career came on soft ground at Ascot last year and he may bounce back to his best on a slower surface.
He was second in this race for the past two seasons, but this event seems slightly easier this time around – and I am confident he can go one better.
Finding a horse that can handle these conditions is the most important factor, as we are a long way away from the rattling fast ground we had earlier in the season.
The only slight concern is he can be a little inconsistent, outlined by poor performances at Newcastle and when last seen at Royal Ascot. But the race set-up is perfect for his third spin.
