13:00 – Newmarket – Night In Vegas – WIN (8/11)
I was a little bit annoyed I never took the short odds-on Night In Vegas when last seen at Doncaster, and I am keen to not make the same mistake this time at Newmarket. He was much the best that day, despite probably running a couple pounds below his best efforts. His penultimate effort at the track was very good and he looks to be suited to stepping up to seven furlongs, as he often does a lot of his best work late on. This contest is no harder than anything he’s been contesting – and those who take the short price may be rewared.
13:50 – Ascot – Regional – EW (15/2)
Edward Bethell’s Regional has been a fantastic servant to the game and although he’s not been at his best this year, he is still capable of winning at listed level. His best achievement came at Haydock when winning the Group 1 Sprint Cup back in 2023, but has also placed at the highest level at Ascot and The Curragh. This race is easier than the latest ones he’s been contesting and he gets Clifford Lee for the first time, who is riding well. He looks an attractive each-way price in a race that is lacking a superstar.
14:10 – Newmarket – Tycoon – EW (13/2)
A few weeks ago, I said on a podcast that if the handicapper could drop Tycoon a few pounds, I’d buy him a beer if I ever saw him. He hasn’t really taken that on board, as he is still rated 92, which is a difficult mark for him to win with. Yet, he is more than capable of being in the frame and winning if a couple rivals under-perform. His latest fourth at Yarmouth was a solid performance and the selection also ran well at Ascot and York earlier in the season. Rossa Ryan is a positive jockey booking, and can hopefully partner Tycoon to an overdue success.
14:25 – Ascot – Tenability – WIN (15/8)
I was at Ascot last year when Tenability scrambled home in the hands of Delphine Santiago and despite only winning by a neck, it was clear this horse would go on to contest group races. As such, he’s won at listed level at Goodwood when beating stable-mate Hamish, and also won at that grade when last seen at Windsor at the end of August. He is due a success at group level and this seems a nice opportunity for a horse that’s more than capable.
