12:55 – Arapaho Gold – WIN (7/2)
It would be brilliant to see Arapaho Gold round off a fantastic season with victory in this two-year-old conditions race.
It’s been a near faultless campaign, with four victories from five, including listed success at Newbury – before going on to win the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York on his penultimate start.
He often finishes his races well, occasionally being outpaced, but hitting the line hard indicates his three-year-old season will be even better up in trip over seven furlongs.
Of his rivals, I’m keen to take on Night In Vegas, who I think has been cleverly campaigned throughout the season. But the horse is in a much deeper race here, and Inner City Blues needs to bounce back after disappointing when last seen.
13:30 – Gregory – WIN (5/1)
This Long-Distance Cup is a pretty poor renewal, leaving me reminiscing about former winners such as Kyprios and Stradivarius.
However, Gregory has some decent form tying in with the above mentioned Kyprios, and the likes of Vauban and Sweet William, who would have undoubtedly been popular in this year’s contest.
He looked better than ever when last seen at Newmarket and brings an unexposed nature to a contest needing a spark.
Current favourite Caballo De Mar had a hard race at Longchamp 14 days ago and has had an equally tough campaign, while St Leger winner Highwayman didn’t really beat anything of note when landing the Doncaster feature – and is certainly opposable.
14:40 – Kalpana – WIN (6/4)
Provided the Arc hasn’t left a mark on Kalpana, she is a fantastic price to win the Fillies and Mares Stakes for the third successive year.
On the basis of this year’s form, she is miles clear of any of her rivals and if she was guaranteed to be arriving in good health, would certainly be an odds-on shot.
Her campaign was highlighted by a career-best effort earlier in the year at Ascot when winning the King George, and I am confident she will round off a superb campaign here.
Minnie Hauk would be a player if she could tap back into last year’s form, but she’s had a number of opportunities this season and has failed to deliver.
15:20 – Talk Of New York – WIN (3/1)
Finally, Talk Of New York was very impressive when last seen at Newmarket and I think can follow that success, despite being in significantly deeper waters.
He should have won on his penultimate effort at Goodwood, but was the victim of a poor ride and did well to finish third when last visiting Ascot.
He has seemingly learnt a bit since then and I think he can turn the tables with Gstaad, who finished ahead of him on that Ascot run.
Of the older horses, I think Zavateri presents decent each-way value and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him run well.
