Brighton vs Aston Villa – Premier League 2026/27 Match Preview

Brighton vs Aston Villa Preview

Brighton vs Aston Villa is a key part of the first Super Sunday in the 2026-27 Premier League season.

A 2pm kick-off from the South Coast between two teams capable of the spectacular, football is well and truly back!

But the Seagulls have the added task of managing this fixture in the middle of their two-legged Europa Conference League Play-Off tie vs Tromso. Can they cope with the demands?

We will soon find out, but first check out our full match preview for Brighton vs Aston Villa below, with a selection of online betting tips and the latest Premier League odds from NetBet Sport.

Brighton vs Aston Villa Preview

Brighton’s 2025-26 season ended with a whimper, suffering two consecutive defeats to Leeds (1-0) and Manchester United (0-3).

But Fabian Hurzeler’s men excelled in pre-season, claiming three straight wins vs Strasbourg (4-3), AS Roma (3-0) and Bologna (1-0).

So confidence levels in the camp will be high ahead of the season’s start, with new centre-back and record signing Luka Vuskovic out to make his mark early on.

Brighton are set to be without a number of key players, though. Yankuba Minteh has been ruled out for a number of months, while Kaoru Mitoma and summer arrival Pascal Struijk are viewed as major doubts.

Aston Villa will arrive on the South Coast this Sunday on the back of three straight losses.

The 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup came either side of failures vs Bayern Munich (1-2) and – most recently – Borussia Monchengladbach (2-1).

It has been a bit of a chaotic summer for Unai Emery, with some key players leaving in Youri Tielemans, Lucas Digne and Morgan Rogers – with Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins also reportedly close to the exit door.

Furthermore, Villa have been rocked by injury news concerning summer signing Joao Gomes and Brian Madjo, with each set to miss out and join long-term absentee Amadou Onana on the treatment table.

Teenage sensation Madjo finished pre-season with five goals to his name, and it is a shame we won’t see him at The Amex.

Summer signing Johan Manzambi – who you may remember lit up World Cup 2026 with Switzerland – is also unlikely to feature here, another blow for Emery.

But the Spaniard has a good recent record against Brighton, winning each of the last three top-flight encounters – including 3-0 and 4-3 wins at The Amex!

Brighton vs Aston Villa Betting Tips

Both teams to score – Yes @ 1.50

Each of these teams is capable of playing a high-energy, high-risk brand of football. And given this is the opening weekend of the season, there is slightly less jeopardy attached to the fixtures, so both sides may opt to lean a bit more on their attacking instincts. As such, the BTTS market could be a potential gold mine – especially as it is a bet which landed in each of Villa’s last four Premier League games.

Player to score or assist – Georginio Rutter @ 2.24

Rutter is surely at the front of the pack to be Danny Welbeck’s replacement – at least in the early stages of the season! The Frenchman tallied two goals and an assist in pre-season, a decent return for a player whose Brighton career is yet to really ignite. Maybe 2026-27 is his time to shine…

Player to score or assist – Emiliano Buendia @ 2.60

Speaking of players delivering decent numbers in pre-season, Buendia sits close to the top of the tree in that regard. The Argentine playmaker finished Villa’s warm-up clashes with two goals and four assists, so looks primed for a starting role at The Amex.
